Kitchen Safety Essentials Workshop

The Lakeview Hub is focusing on food for April and will offer employment services and food-focused workshops at 799 Douglas Street every Wednesday. The first of our fun, interactive one-hour workshops will begin on April 9, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Hub. It will kick off with a "Kitchen Safety Essentials" workshop; as part of the series, the Hub will also offer workshops on food literacy and finding affordable groceries.

All of these workshops are free, but please register in advance to save your spot so we can ensure we have enough resources for everyone.  Registration can be completed through this form.

Kitchen safety is crucial for reducing injuries and food contamination. Here are some things to think about when in the kitchen:

Use Mitts or Gloves: Use insulated materials designed to handle hot metals. A tea towel might not be enough to keep your hand from burning. .

Turn Pot Handles: A pot handle on a stove can get knocked and spill. Turning the stove top pot handles toward the back reduces the risk of spills and fire.

Microwave Dos and Don’ts: Don’t put any form of metal in the microwave, including tinfoil.

Learn Fire Preparedness - Knowing how to respond to various types of kitchen fires is crucial.

During the Kitchen Safety Essentials Workshop, we will cover:

· Personal Safety & Hygiene

· Fire & Heat Safety

· Food Safety & Sanitation

About the Hub

The Hub’s mission to empower the Lakeview community by providing local, essential services that cultivate personal and collective growth. Our focus is on real solutions for real people, addressing their practical needs and nurturing their social and emotional well-being.

The Hub is about more than finding jobs—it’s about helping people thrive in all aspects of their lives. By providing employment support that helps individuals holistically connect with the labour market, we aim to meet people where they are, understand their challenges and work with them to build a stronger, more connected community.

At the heart of it, the Hub ensures that everyone in the Lakeview community can grow, succeed, and feel proud of who they are. Lakeview Hub envisions a thriving community where individuals are empowered to reach their full potential. We see a future where everyone has access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed—where connections are strengthened, challenges are met with resilience, and every person feels valued, respected, and proud to be part of something bigger. Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant Lakeview, where hope and possibility are within everyone’s reach.
